Missed our 2026 International Women's Day event? Here's our recap!
In collaboration with Mercy University, the United Nations Association of the USA (UNA-USA) Westchester Chapter proudly co-hosted a dynamic and inspiring Women’s Empowerment Summit as its contribution to International Women's Day 2026. The February 27th Summit gathered students, leaders, advocates, educators, and community partners committed to advancing gender equity and shaping a more equitable future. The energy from that day continues to reverberate across our community.
Our keynote speaker, Luchina Fisher, Emmy Award–winning storyteller and documentarian, delivered an engaging and inspiring address that moved the room. Her message on the transformative power of storytelling (Dreams Don't Expire) resonated deeply and set a bold, action-oriented tone for the day.
The panel discussion brought together extraordinary women leaders forging change across sectors. UNA-Westchester Board member C. Michele Shivers moderated a conversation that was impactful, lively, and engaging — which created space for each panelist’s voice. The audience response and Q&A reflected engagement and cross-generational dialogue. President Marcia Brewster set the stage by demonstrating how this event was the kick off to International Women's Day, the UN Commission on the Status of Women and Women's History Month in March.
One of the outstanding features of the Summit was the vibrant presence of our Community Partners, providing a wonderful networking opportunity during transitions. Conversations extended beyond introductions to potential collaboration, and several organizations have already expressed interest in participating in 2027.
Our Zero Waste initiative was also very well received, demonstrating our commitment to aligning gender equity leadership with environmental responsibility and the broader UN Sustainable Development Goals.
